discussion
Two curious characters of this species are (1) that
there is an upsidedown cone of tissue under the
stem's base and inside the volval sack (2) that the
internal limb of the volval sac can be carried up
with volval by the cap as the mushroom expands.
In the latter case, at least for awhile, the internal
limb may project under the cap and cover the inner ends
of the gills. (See image no. 2, above.)—R. E. Tulloss

There are at least two striking things in the images of
this species: The limbus internus of the volva appears
to be carried up by the expanding cap; and, at the stage
of development that is depicted, the limbus internus is
still wrapped around the cap edge and projects over the
lamellae. There is an obconic lump of tissue below the
stipe that is neither stipe nor universal veil.
The preface (5' motif) the nrLSU gene is of the from
dominant in section
Vaginatae—"TTTGACCTCAAATCA."
Previously, this organism was called
"A. sp-C27" on this site.
