The nrITS DNA sequence of this species was first found
in GenBank mislabeled as representing Amanita constricta.
The present organism was first called "A.
sp-constricta03 in these pages. The discovery
of specimens with the same DNA among material
generously sent to the Roosevelt herbarium by
supportive collectors gave a "face" to the
organism. See the collector's credits in the
"materials examined" datafielf on the techincal tab
of this page.
The present name is intended to provide the
suggestion of genetic linkage between the constricta
"group" and many other species of the world with graying,
submembranous volvas.—R. E. Tulloss
