Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text where data is missing or uncertain. The following material is based on the work of Dr. Z. L. Yang and colleagues at the Kunming Inst. of Botany, Yunnan Prov., China. NOTE: Spore measurements from papers by Z. L. Yang use his "Times New Roman" face for "Q" and "Q'"—respectively, "

discussion |
t.b.d. Comparison by means of sporographs of the spore sizes and shapes of the present taxon, A. farinosa Schwein., and are to be found on the technical tab for A. farinosa. A comparison of the present taxon with A. nehuta by means of sporographs follows: Amanita nehuta differs from all the taxa known by various authors under the name A. farinosa by having inflated cells of its universal veil with a verruculose surface. Otherwise, the taxa are very similar. Considering the rarity of the decorated inflated cells in the entire genus, it is well worth noting that the only other taxon know to have such cells is another powdery-volva'd, gray taxon of section Amanita—A. sinensis.

Each spore data set is intended to comprise a set of measurements from a single specimen made by a single observer; and explanations prepared for this site talk about specimen-observer pairs associated with each data set. Combining more data into a single data set is non-optimal because it obscures observer differences (which may be valuable for instructional purposes, for example) and may obscure instances in which a single collection inadvertently contains a mixture of taxa.
