intro |
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain.
The following material not directly from the protolog of the present taxon and not cited as the work of another researcher is based on original research by R. E. Tulloss. |
pileus |
30 - 58 mm wide, white, at first hemispherical becoming broadly convex to planoconvex occasionally with slight depression over disk, shiny in those places where pileipellis exposed; context 6 - 9 mm thick at stipe, narrowing evenly toward margin, white, firm, not discoloring; margin nonstriate, inflexed becoming deflexed, appendiculate, occasionally rimose; universal veil as dense covering of off-white to creamy to pale orange-white material, usually thickest over disk, as nearly complete pulverulent coating or as thick subfloccose to floccose irregular warts sometimes browning on uppermost surfaces. |
lamellae |
narrowly adnate to free, close to crowded, white, 7 mm broad, rarely inversely forking; lamellulae abruptly truncate sometimes with an attenuate extension (tooth) at pileus trama, occasionally reaching neither margin nor stipe. |
stipe |
22 - 47 × 7.5 - 17 mm, white, browning somewhat from handling or where cut, equal to narrowing downward, not or minimally flaring at apex, finely pulverulent; bulb subventricose to napiform, radicating, occasionally with a pseudorhiza projecting downward up to 9 mm from apparent bulb tip, 19 - 42 × 13 - 24 mm; context white, unchanging, tissue appearing very dense, easily breaking transversely leaving uneven fracture, hollow entirely or in lower portion, partially stuffed with cottony material, with central cylinder 4 mm wide; partial veil thin, fragile, submembranous, apical to subapical, striate on upper surface, disappearing or left in lacerate remains on stipe or hanging from pileus margin; universal veil absent or occasionally encircling top of bulb in broken ring. |
odor/taste |
Odor faint, pleasant, floral. Taste not recorded. |
macrochemical tests |
none recorded. |
lamella edge tissue |
sterile. |
basidiospores |
[80/4/3] (8.7-) 9.8 - 17.5 × 5.2 - 7.3 (-10.5) µm, (L = 10.8 - 12.2 µm; L’ = 11.5 µm; W = 6.1 - 6.5 µm; W’ = 6.3 µm; Q = (1.48-) 1.53 - 2.14 (-2.25); Q = 1.74 - 1.99; Q’ = 1.83), thin-walled, hyaline, smooth, amyloid, elongate to occasionally cylindric or occasionally ellipsoid, often expanded at one end, occasionally constricted; apiculus sublateral, ??; contents guttulate; white in deposit. |
ecology |
Solitary to subgregarious in sandy soil. Known only from type location. Associated vascular plants not reported. |
